Together for climate-neutral cities

As part of the 112 selected European cities, Oslo, Trondheim, and Stavanger are committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
To succeed in this ambitious mission, municipalities must foster deep collaboration between citizens, businesses, national authorities, and academia to accelerate the green transition

About the collaboration platform

The platform serves as a hub for Norway’s efforts within the Cities Mission. It is built upon the transition processes of the selected cities, the framework of their Climate City Contracts, and identified local needs. In addition to Oslo, Trondheim, and Stavanger, several other Norwegian cities participate in the mission through various projects and initiatives

    The capital Oslo is investing heavily in

    climate change adaptation, and has applied to participate in the social mission with measures such as its award-winning climate budget and comprehensive efforts within climate management.

    The technology city of Trondheim has long invested in knowledge development and innovation, and has used its climate contract to, among other things, highlight efforts in new business collaborations and the focus on CSS innovation.

    Stavanger has long been known as the Norwegian oil city. Through their participation in the social mission, they promote climate action both within their own organization and through new forms of cooperation and citizen involvement.

  • Bergen, Tromsø, Bodø and Ålesund all applied to participate in the social mission, and together with Drammen, have various projects and initiatives both connected to and in relation to the social mission.

Projects and initiatives

The core of the social mission is all the measures and projects that are implemented in the various Norwegian cities, in order to reduce emissions and contribute to more sustainable cities. Read more about the climate contracts here:

Norwegian contributors

There are many Norwegian actors involved in the Cities' social mission, both directly in projects and initiatives and indirectly through collaboration and instruments.
